kranium, cranium

Description:
Cranium with mandible of Young adult Female (?). No obvious decorations present that is distinguishable from taphonomic modifications. Skull is relatively very clean with very little adhering soil or roots. It is mottled in coloration but tan-medium brown in general, with a darker reddish-brown on the occipital and left posterior parietal. Small patches of darker black residue on frontal and the traces of a possible leaf once stuck to the craniul on the right parietal at coronal suture. Mandible posterior border is polished. Trauma consists of a possible BFT (but it could be sharp force from a spiked weapon) on mid-right parietal just lateral of sagittal suture. Appears to have punctured both cranial tables with healed woven bone covering the inner table puncture. Dimensions of the bottom of the indent are: 18.46 x 5.11mm. The outer table indent dimensions are: 31.2 x 17.89mm. No obvious osseous pathology. In situ teeth are minimally to moderately worn with score 1-2 calc on most. Moderate periodontal pitting in premolar and molar crypts, especially maxilla. rUM3 possibly lost antemortem due to abcess, crypt open and shows lateral destruction. LM3s also lost antemortem, crypt open, with possible early abcess developing on rLM3 crypt. Several molars show postmortem enamel loss. Maxilla:. Mandible: Some measurements missing due to wear or postmortem enamel loss.
