mask
- Description:
- Mask, or mask-like sculpture, of cut and painted wood. The mask is strongly stylized and monochrome painted in a maroon color. The nose forms a bow between the forehead and the upper lip. There is a drilled hole in each side. At the top of the mask is a loop with a string attached to it. The mask is likely to come from the lower Sepik or the north coast (See Stöhr, 1987. Compared to picture 96 at p. 326). (NS)
