BEYOND TREATMENT
- Description:
- For Papua New Guineans living with cancer, accessing specialised treatment can mean travelling long distances, facing limited treatment options and navigating an already challenging healthcare system. But, a major development at Port Moresby General Hospital could soon begin to change that. The hospital new Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre is nearing completion, with specialised radiotherapy, brachytherapy and chemotherapy services expected to expand the country’s capacity to treat cancer locally. The development comes within the broader priorities of Papua New Guinea’s National Health Plan 2021–2030, which identifies improving access to quality healthcare, addressing disease burdens and strengthening the health system as key national objectives.
