- When Papua New Guinea gained Independence in 1975, some of the first Government workers were employed in various fields. Work in the field of agriculture and livestock was one of the first to be established, given PNG’s unique connection with the sector as far as history is concerned. Some of the surviving workers in the Department were given a farewell during a luncheon at Stanley Hotel today, as they retire from work.
