Guard of honour, Otara, 1992.
- Description:
- Pupils of Bairds Rd Intermediate School provide the King of Tonga, Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, with a guard of honour during the king's visit to their school. "The pupils at Baird Rd Intermediate School in Otara had every reason to be excited last week - the King of Tonga came to visit. King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV wanted to see what a life education classroom at the school was like. The classroom teaches children about the dangers of substance abuse. The king ... told the students he was thinking of introducing the programme to Tonga because he wanted to promote health and fitness. A chance meeting with the director of the Life Education Trust at a social function last week prompted the visit ... During the royal visit, the pupils formed a guard of honour for the king and welcomed him with a haka." (Saturday Courier, 14 March 1992, p. 3)
