I come from Normanby island with so much been talked about. Different version of stories told back in my village called kwanaula. This is the first time i have come across this map of normanby island drawn by an Australian "Evan Stanley". Fast forward to today, most names of villages that were written on the map are not how they are spelled or spoken. I believe they are spoken and spelled based on the diverse language dialec we have on the island.
I am interested to know more about the history of my own island such as; who were the first explorers, what is the real story behind the giving of names to each villages on Normanby Island. So many names that are mentioned today are not written on the map. Who were the earliest people who lived on the island before explorers arrived on normanby island.
I come from the area called kwanaula village and would like to know more interesting fact. My middle name "Kagumeiya" is an original and traditional name given by my great grand mother from kwanaula village on normanby island. The name "Kagumeiya" shares a very deep meaning about my roots.
