This collection is resources, websites, documents and photos for visitors to access to support their research and understanding of the Solomon Islands.The Solomon Islands Historical Encyclopaedia was begun in 2005, creating entries on places, events and people. The final product has over 280,000 words and 703 entries, some small and others covering five thousand words. The 312 general entries cover the years from the declaration of the British Protectorate until independence in 1978. There are also 391 biographical entries, mainly centred on the Protectorate years, although some entries, particularly those on current political and religious leaders, extend to the present. There are also around 1,000 photographs, illustrations, and maps. This is the only digital encyclopaedia for any Pacific Island nation, enabling access to the colonial years of the Solomon Islands. The Encyclopaedia has only had minimal updating since it was first published in 2013.
