pot, vessel, clay pot

Description:
Clays of maroon clay that was magnated with fine sand and burned over relatively low heat. Some places on the vessel have been more exposed to fire than others. The vessel has not had any functional significance in the sense that food was stored or stored in it but used as an ornament on the tip of a house gable. The pot is intricately decorated with a face sculpted on the upper part of the pot. It is a hole in the birdbeak-like nose. The face turns into a bird with a beak that makes it reminiscent of a hornbird, the viewer’s straight up in the air. Furthermore, the bird has wings, short star and large legs with six claws/fingers on one and five on the other. These bones are not necessarily related to the bird but perhaps to the animal underneath. On the bird’s back there is a decor element of arches and curves that is also found on spear throwers from the same area. In the middle of the vessel there are several protruding ovals with circles inside, these are around the whole pot.
