Description:
Cabbage, cut from a piece of wood (Intsia bijuga). The bowl has eight feet, one with a drilled hole in it. This hole is used in ceremonies to attach a plant fiber string to (wa ni tanoa) on which to attach kauri shells. This string is then laid out on the ground against the highly regarded chieftain or a guest of honor. Kava is named yaqona in Fiji. The bowl has a patina that shows a long-lasting use.
