- Description:
- Species of the genus Montipora form submassive colonies, lamination, columnar or digitate or can occur in many other combinations between these forms. The laminar and digitiform are characteristic of turbide waters and the submassive and columnar forms occur in the reefs. Viu has a pale brown color, with branches with whitish tips and white tentacles. The species is known from the coral reefs and the lagoons of the Red Sea, the western Indian Ocean and the South Pacific. The copy is part of the old collection, purchased by Grigore Antipa.

The beautiful/sad coral

This piece made me think of how I saw a tiny coral reef in Samoa, with many fish swimming around it. It was beautiful to see corals for the first time, but it was also sad to see the dead pieces of white coral drifting ashore at that same beach.
