- Description:
- Turbinaria peltata forms flat colonies, sometimes overlapping, sometimes they are columnar and can measure a few meters in diameter. The corals are immersed or tubular, with a 3-5 mm calyx. The polyps are large and sometimes extend during the day. It prefers shallow water in rocky areas or the edge of the reefs, in turbid water areas. The vineyards are sometimes brown gray. It is an abundant species in the Indo-Pacific region, and can extend from the east coast of Africa, to Taiwan and Samoa. The copy is part of the old collection, purchased by Grigore Antipa from 1897-1898, from Gustav Schneider, Swiss taxidermist and custodian of the Zoological Instit of the University of Basel.
