Fanning island expedition, July and August, 1972

Description:
The flood-title jet entering Fanning Atoll lagoon is described, and is shown to be effective in promoting between lagoon and ocean water. The residence time of lagoon water must thus be substantially less than the maximum of eleven months suggested by earlier studies. The bathymetry of the lagoon area is subject to the jet that is described.
