- Ipu. cup. This ipu is made from a hollowed out popo (coconut shell). Generally used to serve and carry food, drink and 'ava (kava), a smaller variety of niu (coconut) was sought out known as the niu tea. The niu is halved width wise and the muliipu (lower half) of the niu is used as the ipu. A unique feature of this ipu is that it was created by halving a niu length wise. This places the three functional holes of the niu at one end of the ipu....
