waist garment

Description:
Ta'ovala Fanakio. Fanakio waistmat. This ta'ovala is woven entirely from fanakio (fibre) strips, due to its small size it would most likely be for a small child. Fanakio is most prevalent in the island of Niuafo'ou and grows only there. This ta'ovala is smooth, rectangular in shape and a toffee brown colour. The top edge is lined with red fabric and the bottom edge is knotted to form fringing.
