Hurricane leaves trail of destruction in Rarotonga: most violent storm in history of the island
- Description:
- Although of brief duration, a hurricane which swept Rarotonga early in March did more damage to buildings and plantations than any other hurricane in the memory of the oldest European inhabitants. Heavy rains added to the confusion and discomfort caused by the wrecked buildings. LEFT: Damaged buildings in Messrs. A. B. Donald’s yard. RIGHT: The roof of the London Missionary Society’s church was lifted and thrown on to the near by graveyard.
