Aviti shank

Description:
Shank component for an 'aviti (pearl shell bonito fishing lure). This fish hook shank is constructed from light yellow parau. The shank is cut into a somewhat rectangular shape along three sides and polished to maximum glossy sheen from the central thicker section of pearl shell including the hinge. The hinge has a perforation through which tuaina (twine) is usually threaded through to secure a point at the far end.
