Te kai ni kakari
- Description:
- Te kai ni kakari. Thatching needle made from te kakari (the bill of a swordfish). This implement would be used to attach and secure pieces of ato (thatch made from prepared leaflets of coconut or pandanus) to the rafters of dwellings. This kai ni kakari is long and sharpened to a point with te kora (coconut sennit) cord wound around the base. It has a polished surface treatment.
