Fact Sheet Waste Funding Systems Deposits and Levies

Description:
This is a waste deposit/levy system sheet which is defined as an economic instrument that can assist in sustainably financing waste management. It is a small deposit that is added to the import or sale of the product. This deposit is refunded to the consumer when returned for recycling. A way to create a shared responsibility for the management of waste with both the importer and consumer, can also retained a portion of the deposit and any unredeemed deposits, are used to fund the recovery, recycling and off-shore shipping of the product.
