- Description:
- To acknowledge the waste management and a serious issue which is of concern to the region, especially hazardous wastes such as E-waste and Asbestos as well as solid wastes, specifically Recyclables. As the European Union is funding this project, this meeting also endorsed several items related to the governance of the project which were discussed by the committee members after an update on the teams'activity. The SPREP team has commenced discussions with countries on national project investments and delivering activities which will improve data collection and sharing, assess legal frameworks and waste policies, develop structured education and awareness initiatives, enhance private sector engagement, and build capacity to deliver sound environmental waste management practices across the Pacific.
