GBRMPA : Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority - Reef Report

Description:
Explores the establishment of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority by the Government of Australia in 1975 with the objective of protecting and managing balance between conservation and development on the Reef. It describes how the GBRMPA set out to develop strategies to manage all activities with potential impact to the Reef. Examples are provided such as; establishment of a code of anchoring, oil spill plan, and scientific research carried out by GBRMPA personnel on the Crown of Thorns Starfish. These illustrate the scope of work carried out by the GBRMPA which believs that success in safeguarding can only come from .."strong emotional and intellectual commitment to the ongoing protection of the Great Barrier Reef."
