Timor-Leste is an island nation located in South East Asia. Timor-Leste occupies the eastern half of Timor Island and the islands of Atauro and Jaco with West Timor controlling the other half of the island (for Indonesia). Timor-Leste covers 14,919 km2 of land and is in the process of establishing its maritime boundaries. The capital of Timor-Leste is Dili, home to 23% of its 1,280,743 population. Timor-Leste gained Independence from Indonesia in 2002 .
