A Landing Vehicle Tracked (Armored)(Mark 1), LVT(A)-1 left after the Battle of Peleliu during World War Two on the island of Peleliu. Photograph taken as part of Exercise KOA THUNDER 2001. Marines from Aviation Support Element, Kaneohe Bay Hawaii, 1ST Marine Air Wing, Okinawa, Japan, and 3rd Marines 7th Battalion, 29 Palms, California, participated in KOA THUNDER on the island of Guam from July 9 to July 14. The purpose of the exercise was to demonstrate the Marine Corps ability to deploy in the South Pacific from places other than Okinawa, Japan
