Description:
Amon, 7th Army Air Force pilot, inspects the tail boom of his P-38, almost severed from the tail assembly when a 40 millimeter anti-aircraft shell struck his Lightning fighter. With controls torn out and the boom barely hanging together, he flew the plan 700 miles back to his Marianas base. Mariana Islands - Guam
