Earthquake ^ Flooding ^ Tsunami - Amanave, American Samoa, November 15, 2009 -- Large, strong new tents were well received in Amanave, which was the first location to receive the 16-by-16 foot tents designed to withstand the windy, rainy seasonal conditions now prevailing in American Samoa. They replaced smaller, dome style tents. Recipients praised the flexibility of the new tents. The walls can be raised or lowered as needed. The can be closed for privacy. Tingman, FEMA's federal coordinating officer in American Samoa, listen as Tusi Suiaunoa, chief protocol officer for the governor's office, describes the damage and recovery in the village of Amanave. Many homes in Amanave were destroyed by the tsunami of September 29, 2009, but no lives were lost there. Elsewhere in American Samoa there were 32 confirmed deaths as of this date.
