PNG prime minister announces ban on foreign advisors to govt
- Description:
- Papua New Guinea's prime minister has announced a ban on all foreign advisors working for his government, saying they make local staff lazy and could be spying. Australia is the dominant aid partner to PNG and has several hundred advisors helping the government, as part of a half a billion dollar aid program. The ban will take effect on the first of January next year. It comes at a time of tension between the two countries over the Manus Island detention centre and a diplomatic blunder regarding Bougainville.
