Manus Island asylum seekers told to move into main town as Australia shuts down detention centre
- Description:
- Asylum-seekers on Manus Island have been told they must leave the Australian-funded detention centre and move into the main town. Papua New Guinea Immigration officials told the more than 800 men in the detention centre that demolition work would start soon on parts of the accommodation. It's the latest move by PNG and Australian authorities to shut down the centre after the PNG Supreme Court found the asylum-seekers were illegally detained there.
