Chiefs council gear up for meeting on Fijian crisis
- Description:
- It's been two weeks since Fiji's military ousted the democratically elected government of Laisenia Qarase. While Mr Qarase remains in his home village on the remote Lau group of islands, the military leadership in Suva says its "clean-up" campaign aimed at weeding out corrupt officials is in full swing. A crucial meeting with the Great Council of Chiefs is set down for tomorrow. Some have hopes that the council can help put Fiji's democracy back on track. But it's unclear who, if anyone, will attend the talks.
