- Fifteen years ago this week, the nasty little war on Bougainville officially ended. It was a decade-long armed conflict people between the people of Bougainville and the Papua New Guinean Government. But while they mark the anniversary of the peace agreement, the Government of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville's engaged in a new struggle over the ownership of the island's controversial Panguna copper mine. PNG's Prime Minister wants to give a minority shareholding in the company, which operated the mine to landowners on the island.
