North Pacific Ocean : Marshall Islands : Ailinglapalap (Elmore or Odia) Atoll

During an inspection prior to the departure from Guam on Leg 61 of the Deep Sea Drilling Project, a crack was discovered on the main propeller shaft of the D/V Glomar Challenger (ship). The shaft was grounded out and was replaced during the ships next scheduled maintenance dry dock session. 1978

My Fascinating experiences on the island of Bikini

Henry W. (Henry William) Menard, Robert S. (Robert Sinclair) Dietz, and unidentified man, on Bikini Atoll of the Marshall Islands during the Midpac Expedition. Menard was a marine geology professor and Dietz was a geophysicist and oceanographer who conducted pioneering research. Both taught at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography
