A US Air Force M220BFL rough terrain fork lift moves a pallet of luggage of evacuees from the Philippine Islands. The evacuation is the result of the June 10 eruption of Mount Pinatubo, which deposited more than four inches of volcanic ash on the Islands. More than 20,000 evacuees have been removed from the area as a part of the US military's Operation Fiery Vigil

Marines from Aviation Support Element, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, 1ST Marine Air Wing (MAW), Okinawa, Japan, and 3rd Marines 7th Battalion, 29 Palms, California, participated in KOA THUNDER on the island of Guam from July 9 to July 14. The purpose of the exercise was to demonstrate the Marine Corps ability to deploy in the South Pacific from places other than Okinawa, Japan
